Year 5
Our children enter Year 5 as enthusiastic and motivated learners. As children move to the Upper Phase of the school, they grow in confidence and are able to independently apply the skills they have learnt and to explore new learning.
English
This term in English we will be writing a variety of different genres including narrative, newspaper reports and eye- witness accounts. Our writing will be linked to our exciting and adventurous text ‘The Adventures of Odysseus’ by Hugh Lupton.
Maths
As Mathematicians we will:
• Recognise how to multiply numbers (both long and short)
• Recognise how to divide numbers (both long and short)
• Explore how to divide with remainders
• Recognise place value 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s
IPC
The Great, Bold and Brave
As historians we will be:
• Investigating how the Greek /Roman Empire was structured
• Key battles and wars that shaped the Empire
• Using various sources to learn about the past and identifying how bias might impact their reliability
• Identify key figures in the Empire and their importance in shaping how it grew
• Understand how an Empire falls and what impact this would have on its people
• Compare and contrast how society is formed in the modern day and in ancient times
• Asking questions and using research skills to answer them in order to find out more about the past
