At Holland Junior School, our aim is that all pupils will develop curiosity, interest and awareness about foreign languages, predominately French. Learning a second language will allow pupils to explore relationships between language and identify, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the changing world. Language learning complements our IPC curriculum which focuses on developing a better awareness of self, individuals and cultures around the world. The intention is that pupils will feel confident and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2 and working towards becoming life-long language learners. Holland Junior School uses the Kapow scheme and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics. Teachers are encouraged to use lots of oral practice and drama to make language learning practical, memorable and fun. The scheme contains actual French speaking teachers in order to model how to speak. Children are given the opportunity to practise. Each class has a French display, displaying the key French vocabulary. This is taught once a week.
