Welcome to Year 3/4
Holly Class’s teacher is Mrs Bistram and the Teaching Assistant is Miss King.
Ash Class’s teacher is Mr Holliday (Monday to Wednesday) and Miss Root (Thursday and Friday) and the Teaching
Assistant is Mrs Oosthuizen.
Chestnut Class’s teacher is Miss Patel and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Hanley.
Year 3 have PE on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week so please make sure that PE kits are in school for both days.
English
In English this term, we will be reading The Queen’s Nose by Dick King-Smith and ‘The Girl who Stole and Elephant’ by Nizrana Farook and using them to build on our comprehension skills. In writing, we will be focusing on exploring poetry which explore form, persuasive adverts and first-person diary entries.
We will be looking closely at poetic devices, developing our persuasive skills and improving our sentences with conjunctions and paragraphs.
Maths
In Maths this term, we will be learning about place value of numbers up to 1,000. We will be comparing and ordering numbers and beginning to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We will also be learning how to add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s and 1,000s. We will be learning how to add and subtract across the boundary.
IPC
Over the next half term, Year 3 and 4 will be completing a 3-week unit on ‘’Brainwaves- Metacognition’. The children will be learning about our brain and how we can use it to learn new things and make connections. We also will be learning how our emotions can affect our learning so that we can improve the way we learn. This will be followed by a unit of work called ‘Tombs, Temples and Treasures’ where will be comparing the civilisations of the Ancient Egyptians with the Ancient Sumerians and learning about their lives.
